  1. Do I need to have a separate set of cards for each child?
Yes, you need one set for each child. I would recommend that you put each child’s name above or below the cardholder using a piece of tape or post it or something similar. Also each child should have their own key ring or hook on which to collect his or her reward cards.
  2. I have so many issues to work on with my child. Can I narrow it down to just one or two?
Yes, definitely, in fact I recommend that as a starting point. Choose just one or two issues, write a behavior statement and work on that for one or two weeks. Add one or two more after you are satisfied that your child has mastered the current expectations.
  3. What do I do if my child reaches the CRASH card and then repeats the behavior just a short time later?
Treat it as another CRASH immediately and repeat the same consequences or repeat the same consequences and add an additional consequence if you believe it is warranted. For example if your consequence for a crash is 20 minutes in timeout then the second crash might be 30 minutes.
  4. What consequences do you recommend?
I do not make specific recommendations of consequences because each family is different. You have to use ones that fit your family values and circumstances. However, that being said, some of the things I have seen that work well for other families are time outs and removing privileges. I would avoid using food as a punishment. It is important that you implement the consequences immediately or by the end of the day at the latest and not the next day.
  5. How does my child get back to the EVERY DAY IS A NEW BEGINNING card?
Every day is a new beginning so no matter what happened the day before your child goes back to that card every morning. They get a clean slate. Start your day with your child with affirmations and smiles and encouragement.
